In my mixed media work, I combine paint, pastel and paper to create layered, textured pieces. I follow an intuitive process, responding to the materials as I go and allowing each work to evolve naturally through form, colour and expression.
Printed on Felix Schoeller True Fibre Matte 200gsm using archival pigment-based inks. Prints are standard A5 sizes unless otherwise specified, with an additional 2 cm border on all sides for handling and framing.

honoring and celebrating the Self in all her layers, colors and rhythms
tides of becoming
This piece was created over quite some time, growing and changing alongside me — from losing my son, to birthing my daughter, and through the months of postpartum.
It is a piece about life and death, and all the layers, textures, forms and shapes that we, as women, move through in our lives — especially in times of profound transition.
It speaks to all those layers that shape us, strengthen us and help us become more grounded and embodied in our bodies. The beautiful, messy, tender and sometimes wild process of becoming — strong, stable, grounded bodies (and pleasurable boobs!).

the joy of arrival, the bloom of being
wild flower
In the Netherlands, we have a tradition of sending a birth card to mark the arrival of a child, alongside the tradition of creating a death card to honour and remember a soul when they leave this earth.
I created this piece as a birth card for Aya. Her second name is Rose, and I wanted to create something that reflected her brave, wild, sweet and caring nature.
The card took a little longer than the usual week after birth, because there were layers to be captured, colours to be explored and textures to be felt into.
And here she is: a wild flower, reminding us that blooming happens in its own time.

a quiet meditation on harmony and wholeness
balance
This piece was created in the months after I heard that my cousin had been diagnosed with breast cancer. We found ourselves chatting while she was sitting in the waiting room for an appointment and I had just moved to South Africa.
It became a marker for two unknown journeys — very different, yet deeply connected through the cousin I had played with so much in my early years.
The image began with two breasts and my wish for her to heal. To find harmony between the left and the right, the feminine and masculine, yin and yang, darkness and light.
The image found its own way into its final form, allowing the viewer to see and feel whatever they need to see and feel.
I feel lucky that she saw the finished piece. I still remember her saying that I should do something with my gift. Unfortunately, she did not receive the healing she had wished for and eventually left this planet.
This piece is an honouring of her, and a deep desire for more balance, harmony and wholeness in this world.

holding courage in the unknown
embrace life
My first real mixed media piece 🙂
In 2018, I officially moved to South Africa to live with my partner, David. It was a new chapter in my life and a huge transition — moving to another continent and, for the first time, sharing a home with a romantic partner. A lot of change, and an even bigger unknown.
I had left most of my art supplies in the Netherlands, including my acrylic paints and canvases, so I started small again. This piece grew slowly alongside me. Although it is small, it took me a long time to finish.
There was one part I simply couldn’t get right. I kept trying to make it work, until I changed the structure, added another layer, and suddenly everything fell into place.
Looking back, that feels like the piece itself was teaching me something about transition: sometimes we need to stop trying to make things fit, allow another layer to emerge, and trust that the shape will reveal itself.
Life transitions take time. They ask for courage, patience and a willingness to step into the unknown.
